About The Position

Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring a Registered Nurse - Circulator for its Cardiac Operating Room team. The role is full-time and rotating, with four 10-hour shifts scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Call is required: one weekend per month and two shifts per week. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $15,000, and relocation assistance is available. Applicants with general operating room or cardiac experience will be considered. The Cardiac Operating Room has five operating rooms, including a hybrid OR, and handles more than eight cases daily. The nurse works with a multidisciplinary surgical team caring for open-heart and other cardiovascular patients. Sentara Heart Hospital is a 112-bed facility on the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital campus. The nurse prepares the operating room, confirms that equipment and medications are available, reviews the patient’s chart, assesses the patient on admission and throughout the procedure, prepares and positions the patient, administers medication, monitors vital signs, and documents relevant information. After the procedure, the nurse gives a call report to the ICU nurse and prepares the OR for the next case. A diploma, associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in nursing is accepted. Direct Care RNs must obtain BLS within 90 days of hire and ACLS within one year of hire.

Requirements

Diploma, associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in nursing.
BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
ACLS certification within one year of hire.
General operating room or cardiac experience is considered.

Responsibilities

Prepare the operating room and ensure equipment and medications are available to the operating room team.
Review the patient’s chart and assess the patient upon admission and throughout the procedure.
Prepare and position the patient in the operating room.
Administer medication and monitor vital signs during the procedure.
Document information related to the procedure.
Provide a call report to the ICU nurse after the surgical procedure.
Prepare the operating room for the next case.
Work as part of the surgical services and operating room teams caring for open-heart and cardiovascular patients.
