About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Circulating OR position at Nebraska Methodist Health System is responsible for the delivery of quality care to patients and families according to their individualized needs. Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • For MFH Surgery Main: Graduate from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing/College of Nursing with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • For Ortho Neuro: National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification training required by the completion of orientation.
  • Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Surgery Experience Required
  • Surgery Main: Two to five years previous inpatient nursing experience, previous surgical experience and experience in venipuncture
  • Surgery Main: American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Surgery Main: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR)

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment.
  • Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's ongoing nursing care needs, prioritizing data collection and using assessment findings in discharge planning.
  • Develop/review/revise and individualize the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes, collaborating with providers and other clinical disciplines.
  • Implement interventions that are consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner, following nursing protocols and standards of care.
  • Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome, monitoring outcomes and documenting patient response.
  • Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety, learning new skills and equipment within the unit's specifications and time frame.
  • Maintain professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization's mission, communicating effectively to solve problems.
  • Initiate action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risks to the patient, family, or hospital employees, completing appropriate report forms for any risk.
  • Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the state's Nurse Practice Act and Professional Standards of Practice.
  • Fiscally accountable, acting professionally responsible for human and other resources and charging accurately for supplies and equipment.
  • Safely administer medications, checking patient allergies, administering medications safely and correctly, and observing and documenting patient response.
