About The Position

As a member of the Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU) team, the Registered Nurse will practice in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. In addition, following the provision of further continuing education by the unit’s educator, the CICU nurse will be responsible for caring for patients with invasive arterial and hemodynamic monitoring, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous veno-venous renal therapy dialysis, and much more.

Requirements

  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
  • Two (2) years recent cardiology experience
  • Completion of a recognized Critical Care Course
  • Capable of complying to the physical demands of the unit
  • Evidence of commitment to team building and working within a patient focused care model
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, decision-making, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work effectively and demonstrates composure under pressure/stressful conditions and to meet multiple and competing demands
  • Previous CICU/ICU experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (A.C.L.S) certification is an asset
  • Sponsorship to the Michener Critical Care Course will be considered for candidates with 2-3 years recent related acute care experience
  • B.Sc. N. preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assessment (systematically collecting data about the health of the patient for initial screening, on-going or selected in-depth assessment in order to determine diagnosis)
  • Planning (identifying priorities, target dates, strategies or interventions in order to contribute to the individualized care plan and achieving optimal outcome for the patient)
  • Implementation (safely and effectively performing the strategies and intervention directed by the care plan)
  • Evaluation (systematically evaluating the extent to which the best possible outcomes have been achieved)
  • Providing educational guidance to the patient group
  • Documenting patient records
  • Acting as patient advocate by protecting and promoting patient rights
  • Performing other duties consistent with the job classification as required.
