About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Charge position is in the Med Surg department and involves coordinating unit staffing, providing leadership, and ensuring the implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care. The role requires assigning, directing, educating, and monitoring nursing and support staff during the assigned shift, as well as contributing to performance evaluations. The nurse will assess daily patient care needs, develop patient care assignments, and evaluate the effectiveness of patient care, addressing any issues that affect patient outcomes. This role also involves responding to complaints about patient care and potentially providing input for hiring, training, directing, development, and evaluation of staff.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required.
  • 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS and PALS may be required in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.
  • Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  • Contribute to or perform performance evaluations of staff.
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
  • Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
  • May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.
