About The Position

We’re looking for a qualified Registered Nurse Charge Nurse like you to join our department in Med Surg working PRN Nights. This position is located at Texas Health Fort Worth, 1304 Pennsylvania Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76104. The work environment is the BU GI GU Surgical Unit, which is a 36-bed surgical unit caring for colorectal, gastrointestinal, and urology surgery patients. The unit will initially open with 20 beds and expand to 36 beds later in the year. Patients may be admitted pre- or post-operatively, with an average length of stay of approximately five days. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth is a 726-bed, Magnet-designated regional referral center serving Tarrant County and surrounding communities since 1930. Hospital services include cardiovascular care, high-risk obstetrics, gynecology, orthopedics and sports medicine, neonatal intensive care, and trauma/emergency medicine. The hospital opened a new 75,000 square foot Emergency Services Center in early 2014. Texas Health Fort Worth has more than 4,000 employees, 200 volunteers, and nearly 1,000 physicians on its medical staff. The hospital has received national recognition for its oncology program and was named “Best Place to Have a Baby” in Tarrant County. It is also a designated Cycle III Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma, Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • 1 Year Experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting.
  • RN - Registered Nurse Upon Hire.
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.
  • A high degree of confidentiality.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 Years Experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide charge nurse duties in a Med Surg unit.
  • Work PRN Nights as needed.
  • Care for colorectal, gastrointestinal, and urology surgery patients.
  • Admit patients pre- or post-operatively.
  • Manage patient care with an average length of stay of approximately five days.
  • Maintain RN staffing ratio of 1:4 and PCT staffing ratio of 1:12.
  • Work 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.
  • May be placed on call for regularly scheduled shifts in response to census fluctuations.
