About The Position

This role involves preparing patients for procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, obtaining necessary permits, providing pre-operative teaching, and performing other essential nursing care. The nurse will also be responsible for removing arterial and venous sheaths post-procedure, monitoring patient physiological parameters, identifying arrhythmias, and providing discharge instructions. Effective communication with nursing units and other departments is crucial for ensuring a continuum of care. The position requires the ability to quickly assess and intervene in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Current RN License issued by Texas State Board of Nurses.
  • Current American Heart Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Current American Heart Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • B.S., Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Cardiovascular nursing experience with knowledge of Cardiovascular Anatomy and Physiology, Cardiac Arrhythmia interpretation and arterial and venous sheath removal.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of Cath Lab nursing experience preferred
  • Two to three years of Critical Care Nursing (CCU preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for procedure.
  • Interviews patient utilizing Database assessment form, obtains appropriate permit for procedure to be performed, performs pre-op teaching utilizing hospital education form, starts IV, places electrodes and palpates appropriate pulses.
  • Documents and assesses all pertinent patient data and reports any abnormal findings that may interfere or alter the procedure to the Cardiologist.
  • Removes arterial and venous sheaths following protocol outlined in the Cath Lab procedure manual.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of physiologic parameters and patient safety.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of arrhythmias and patterns of infarction and ischemia.
  • Responsible for discharge instructions to patient and family.
  • Provides for continuum of care by communicating with personnel from Nursing Units and other departments that provide services to the patient.
  • Responsible for acting independently and under the direction of the physician's standing orders.
  • Is able to assess and intervene quickly in an emergency situation.
  • Upholds the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance.
  • Adheres to and helps to enforce all compliance policies relevant to his/her area.
  • Assures timely compliance education as requested by the Compliance Officer and/or through corporate initiatives.
  • Sets an example to all staff in their daily activities.
