About The Position

The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is seeking a Registered Nurse to join their team. This role involves working in three Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory suites that perform a variety of procedures including cardiac catheterization, permanent pacemaker implants, AICD implants, Electrophysiology studies, ablation procedures, and carotid stenting. The department also includes a 13-bay pre/post patient care area and performs TEE and cardioversion procedures. Orientation for this position is extensive, ranging from 16 weeks to 6 months, covering all aspects of the department. Staff members participate in an on-call rotation, and the nursing care is delivered to adults 18 years or older, with no pediatric procedures. This is a full-time position (80 hours biweekly) with a Monday-Friday schedule, featuring 10-hour days. Eligible for shift and weekend differentials. On-call response time is within 30 minutes. The Registered Nurse is responsible for implementing, directing, and coordinating patient care through the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This includes recognizing and treating physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served on the specific unit.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Evidence of participation in educational programs to update and maintain current knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitor interpretation, conscious sedation, and ACLS required for Cath Lab or achieved within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  • Previous nursing experience in specialty area preferred.
  • For Cath Lab, one year of acute care nursing experience (ED, Cath Lab, CCU, IMCU, Tele-Observation) preferred.
  • Certification in specialty preferred.

  • Functions as a virtual nurse as assigned which includes, but is not limited to, admissions, discharges, education, documentation through a virtual platform and working collaboratively with the bedside nursing staff.
  • Demonstrates scheduling of patients for procedures performed in Cath Lab.
  • Demonstrates competency with pre-procedural phone calls, procedural instructions, and chart preparation for procedures performed in the Cath Lab.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with physical preparation of all patients undergoing procedures in the Cath Lab.
  • Demonstrates competence with post-procedural follow up phone calls.
  • Demonstrates correct patient identification by following Manual of Administrative Policy.
  • Completes preprocedural assessment, procedural preparation, and teaching on all patients undergoing procedures in Cath Lab Suite, and documents assessment information.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the preparation of patient documentation, including review of diagnostic studies, completion of consents, and presence of H&P’s and notification of physician of abnormal results.
  • Completes post-procedural assessment and teaching on all patients undergoing procedures in the Cath Lab suite, and documents assessment information.
  • Continually monitors, assesses, and evaluates patient response during recovery phase, and reports changes in patient condition.
  • Utilizes appropriate nursing assessment pre- and post-procedure, as established by the department standards of patient care.
  • Follows established criteria in assessing patients for discharge readiness.
  • Demonstrates ability to function in the resource role by assisting with flow of procedures.
  • Achieves/maintains credentialing in moderate sedation per annual competency and demonstrates appropriate clinical performance as evidenced by successful observation and chart review.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain an open airway for the anesthetized patient.
  • Identifies signs/symptoms of airway obstruction, laryngospasm, bronchospasm, aspiration, and respiratory arrest, and takes appropriate action to correct the problem.
  • Demonstrates the ability to calibrate and to draw blood from an arterial line.
  • Demonstrates proper technique for removal of venous/arterial sheaths and management of vascular complications.
  • Demonstrates proper application of transcutaneous pacemaker.
  • Demonstrates competency with defibrillating patients.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of high-risk medications that require independent double-checks, including dose calculation; commonly used medications in the Cardiac Cath Lab setting, including actions, side effects and rationale for use; and demonstrates proper initiation and titration of vasopressor agents.
  • Demonstrate proper technique for sterile technique.
  • Demonstrates/maintains proficiency in point of care (POC) testing.
  • Completes a 12 lead EKG.
  • Participates in the annual malignant hyperthermia education.
  • Achieves accurate SBAR hand off communication between levels of care.
  • Collaboratively coordinates with other departments and disciplines to meet patient’s needs.
  • Completes mandatory education and in-services by due date.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
