About The Position

The Registered Nurse - CATH LAB Cardiology/Interventional Radiology RN will assist the cardiologist/radiologist in all aspects of invasive, as well as non-invasive cardiology/radiology, including procedures performed at One Vernon Place. This may include circulating, monitoring, and recording hemodynamic parameters. The role involves assessing patient conditions, developing and implementing care plans, and managing the admitting, recovery, and discharge process for patients in the Cardiac Cath/Interventional Radiology Lab. The nurse will maintain nursing standards, monitor patients, and ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. They will also be responsible for direct patient care, administering medications, assisting with inventory, and ensuring cost-conscious use of supplies. Additionally, the position involves participating in staff orientation, on-call duties, and maintaining professional development through continuing education.

Requirements

  • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Minimum of one year adult, acute care with cardiology/cardiovascular nursing.
  • Current BLS/ACLS are required.
  • Current State Nursing License in Pennsylvania or having made application for licensure.
  • Communication skills necessary to effectively provide instruction to the patient and/or significant other, provide explanations to the patient and/or significant other, explain nursing intervention, and communicate with other members of the health team.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in cardiac Cath lab preferred.
  • IABP experience preferred.
  • CCRN/RCIS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the cardiologist/radiologist in all aspects of invasive and non-invasive cardiology/radiology procedures.
  • Circulate, monitor, and record hemodynamic parameters during procedures.
  • Report pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate personnel.
  • Accurately, concisely, and legibly record patient observations.
  • Plan, implement, and document health teaching with patients and/or significant others.
  • Communicate continuously and as needed with the physician about the patient’s condition.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, family, and physician.
  • Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs.
  • Develop and implement individual plans of care with revisions as needed.
  • Be responsible for admitting, recovering, and discharging patients from the Cardiac Cath/Interventional Radiology Lab.
  • Maintain the standards of nursing care within the guidelines of the nursing department.
  • Monitor the patient at all times.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and implement policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing departments, as well as cardiology, radiology, and critical care areas.
  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate nursing care provided to patients.
  • Administer direct care using professional nursing skills and judgments.
  • Ensure pre-op checklist is complete before patient is taken into catheterization lab.
  • Share on-call duties.
  • Institute emergency measures for Code Blue, Fire, and Disaster plans.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, and document appropriately.
  • Assist physicians with patients, procedures, and exams.
  • Transcribe physician orders accurately and legibly.
  • Administer medications, including IVs, according to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Assist with inventory.
  • Obtain supplies for individual cases and ensure all appropriate needs are met.
  • Demonstrate cost-conscious use of supplies.
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and safe manner.
  • Maintain change sheet for all procedures.
  • Support Guest Services policies and programs.
  • Adhere to hospital attendance policy.
  • Adhere to Administrative Policy # A-230 (General appearance).
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff and in the clinical experience of students.
  • Participate in on-call off hours/weekends/holidays.
  • Respond within 30 minutes when on-call.
  • Assume personal responsibility for professional development and continuing education.
  • Attend required in-service programs.
  • Attend continuing education programs outside of the hospital.
  • Keep abreast of current issues by reading professional journals.
  • Attend unit meetings, other meetings, read notices and memos.
  • Maintain skills in the assessment, treatment, and care appropriate to the unique needs of the patients.
  • Support TQI (Total Quality Improvement) concepts through teamwork, participation, and cooperation.
  • Participate in nursing service committees.
