About The Position

This casual Registered Nurse position involves working evenings and nights. The role requires collaboration with the care team to assess, plan, implement, and monitor resident safety. Responsibilities include delivering individualized resident care, administering medications, performing treatments, and conducting resident assessments. The nurse will also prepare and update resident records, communicate with physicians, family members, and residents, and assist Resident Care staff with basic care needs. Additionally, the role involves observing and reporting resident symptoms, attending care conferences, and participating in the development of the Resident Care Plan.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized nursing program
  • Current practicing registration with the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia or Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of British Columbia.
  • Minimum two (2) years' nursing experience
  • Demonstrated ability, as a team leader, to direct the activities of non-professional staff and co-ordinate activities of the health care team.
  • Special interest in and concern for the welfare and care of the elderly.
  • Confident and professional in their manner.
  • Personal beliefs about nursing congruent with philosophy of the department and the facility.
  • Physically able to carry out the duties of the position including performing moderately heavy work involving transferring of residents, walking, stooping and standing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Ability to deal effectively with others

Responsibilities

  • Working with the care team to assess, plan, implement and monitor residents’ safety.
  • Participating in the delivery of individualized resident care through assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating.
  • Performing direct resident care such as administration of medications, application of treatments and performance of resident assessments.
  • Preparing, maintaining and updating appropriate resident records such as nursing assessment records, resident care plans, medication administration records and Progress Notes.
  • Providing and receiving resident information from a variety of sources such as physicians, family members and residents.
  • Assisting Resident Care staff with the provision of basic care such as toileting, walking, dressing and feeding as required.
  • Ensuring that resident care needs are met by giving necessary instructions to Resident Care staff.
  • Observing and reporting symptoms and conditions of residents to appropriate personnel such as physicians.
  • Providing information to the members of the interdisciplinary team regarding resident needs, reactions and progress.
  • Attending resident care conferences and presenting findings from nursing assessments.
  • Recommending interventions to the interdisciplinary Team and participating in the development of the Resident Care Plan.
