Registered Nurse Casual (RN)- PACU
About The Position
The Pre-Op/PACU RN is responsible for providing safe, compassionate nursing care to patients before and after surgical procedures. In pre-op, this role includes assessing patients, reviewing medical history, starting IVs, administering medications, educating patients and families, and preparing patients for surgery. In PACU, the RN monitors patients during recovery from anesthesia, manages pain and symptoms, assesses vital signs, and ensures a smooth transition to discharge or inpatient care. Performs an age specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Collaborates with physicians and other health team members in coordinating and implementing procedures and treatments. Uses leadership skills/clinical judgment in coordinating patient care and directing/delegating activities of the patient care unit team.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
- BCLS and ACLS required

- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited program within 24 months of employment, if hired after September 1, 2010 and obtain a BSN degree within five (5) years of employment date.

Responsibilities
- Perform pre-operative and post-anesthesia patient assessments
- Monitor vital signs, airway, pain, and recovery status
- Administer medications and IV therapy as ordered
- Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery, and discharge instructions
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with safety standards
- Assesses the patient’s physiologic health status
- Assesses patient’s psychosocial health status
- Identifies patient outcome
- Formulates the plan of care and establishes the priorities necessary to achieve expected outcome
- Implements the plan of care
- Evaluates care provided for patient outcome
- Collaborates with other care team members in planning and carrying out treatment regimen; provides direction to other members of the care team
- Performs grade I-IV Decubritus Care
- Administers medications correctly and safely
- Participates in patient and family education
- Performs related duties as required.
