Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college of nursing required, or obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multi-state license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required for work state.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to address complex issues with physicians and staff across multiple departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification(s) in area of specialty preferred.
  • From National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility.
  • Case Management certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
  • Performs an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the patient's needs, including data from the patient/significant other(s). Prioritizes data collection and initiates discharge planning upon admission.
  • Develops/reviews/revises and individualizes the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes, collaborating with providers and other clinical disciplines.
  • Implements interventions that are consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner, following nursing protocols and standards of care.
  • Performs technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety, and is accountable to learn new skills and equipment.
  • Maintains professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization's mission, communicating effectively and maintaining a professional appearance and work environment.
  • Initiates action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risks to the patient, family, or staff/employees, completing appropriate reports for risks and communicating unresolved issues.
  • Acts professionally responsible for human and other resources, charging accurately for supplies and equipment, and understanding length of stay goals.
  • Coordinates care by collaborating with physician, interdisciplinary team, and patient/family to develop comprehensive discharge plans, establishing effective relationships, and documenting accurately.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities, assists with update/development of critical path and standing order sets, and participates in hospital-wide committees and initiatives as assigned.
