About The Position

Sentara Heart Hospital located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Cardiovascular Surgical ICU (CSICU)! This is a 20-bed cardiac surgical ICU where nurses handle 1-2 patients based on acuity. Nurses provide service to patients who have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, Valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support devices including the Total Artificial Heart and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and various lung surgeries. Nurses manage critically ill patients that require intensive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, multiple drug infusions, IABP therapy and CRRT. The Sentara Heart Hospital is a 112-bed care facility and is recognized for its cardiology and heart surgery services.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Virginia RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.
  • 1 year of RN Experience required
  • 1 year of Intermediate - Stepdown level of care with cardiac knowledge ideal, ED, PCU or 1+ years of Medical/Surgical experience.
  • All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire and ACLS within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Apply the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Provide care to patients who have undergone open heart surgeries such as CABG, Valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, TAVR, ablations, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support devices including the Total Artificial Heart and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and various lung surgeries.
