About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in the Cardiovascular Operating Room, offering a rotating shift with a self-scheduling option for 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts. The position is with a nationally recognized team, ranked in the top 10% in the nation for Cardiac Surgery Programs. The Operating Room Suite has 16 procedure rooms, performing approximately 18,000 surgical procedures annually, with specialties including cardiac, vascular, thoracic, genitourinary, GYN, reconstructive, ENT, neurological, general surgery, orthopedic, oral reconstructive, breast surgery, robotic, and bariatric surgery. The facility is recognized for its advanced safety features, including a negative pressure anteroom, and has received numerous awards for cardiac surgery, spine surgery, knee and hip replacement surgeries. The role emphasizes shared governance, offering nurses a voice through a unit practice council. Advancement opportunities include a strong orientation program, ACLS, critical care and emergency room training, and tuition allowance. Requirements

  • Greater than one year of operating room or procedural nursing experience required.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of New York.
  • Maintains current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist with procedures.
  • Deliver care modalities including care of critically ill patients while in the OR suite.
  • Support patient care in all phases including pre induction, perioperative, intraoperative and post anesthesia.
  • Coordinate and direct care with surgeons, clinical affiliates, scrub techs and circulating RNs.
  • Ensures quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice, American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA).
  • Utilizing the Nursing Process, plans, directs and supervises the care of patients in addition to being involved in the provision of direct care of patients and families.
