About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our ICU - Cardiovascular Department at our East Bank University Hospital location in Minneapolis, MN. We care for patients who have had coronary artery bypass, valve replacement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement, aortic arch repair and heart and lung transplant. The CVICU also handles patients with decompensated heart failure, adult congenital heart defects, cardiogenic shock, advanced pulmonary hypertension and cardiac arrest. We apply extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), ventricular assist devices (VAD), intraortic balloon pumps (IABP) and Swan-Ganz catheters routinely. Our complex patient population requires hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, management of organ failure, maintenance of systemic perfusion and high technical skills. This unit has a low nurse to patient ratio and resource nurses on unit.

Requirements

  • MN RN Licensure
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers
  • 1 year of ICU experience – OR – 18 months of cardiac telemetry – OR – 1 year of IMC experience – OR – Completion of Capstone within Fairview or at another facility of tertiary level ICU care

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or higher preferred
  • Previous CVICU experience
  • Certification in related specialty is highly desired.
  • Certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing or in a related specialty is highly preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 month

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP).
