About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General's Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Surgical IMCU. This 24-bed cardiac surgical/procedural IMCU provides care to pre and post cardiac surgery patients to include: bypass surgery, cardiac valve repairs/replacements, thoracic surgery/lung diagnostics, and other cardiac based procedures and treatments such as ablations, left atrial appendages, ICDs, and permanent pacemakers. The unit also provides a high level of care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, and chest pain. Nurses handle 3-4 patients on this unit based on acuity level. The team is committed to providing the opportunity for training, development, and growth.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing
  • Virginia RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.
  • All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
  • Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
  • New Graduate Nurses welcome to apply!
  • Less than one year experience (for Nurse Residency program)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN
  • Previous healthcare experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Utilize the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Provide care to pre and post cardiac surgery patients.
  • Provide care for patients undergoing bypass surgery, cardiac valve repairs/replacements, thoracic surgery/lung diagnostics, and other cardiac based procedures and treatments such as ablations, left atrial appendages, ICDs, and permanent pacemakers.
  • Provide a high level of care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, and chest pain.
