About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse - Shift Leader for the Night Shift (7p – 7a) on the 5 South Cardiac Stepdown Unit. This 24-bed unit cares for adult patients recovering from complex cardiac surgery conditions. This leadership role is ideal for experienced Cardiology Stepdown or acute care RNs looking to expand their influence, build leadership skills, and grow within a supportive, development-focused environment. Relief Staff Leaders participate in the first scheduling group during self-scheduling, allowing for earlier schedule selection. The patient population includes those with Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, Pre- and Post-Cardiac Procedures, and CABG and Surgical Valve procedures. This role offers emerging leadership development, mentorship, skill expansion in clinical decision-making, resource management, patient flow, and team coordination, along with a comprehensive orientation and opportunities for career advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
  • Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
