About The Position

The Cardiac Specialty Unit is designed to offer a bidirectional capability, serving as both a step-down and step-up unit for patients whose care needs are not optimally met by the CICU or acute care ward. This unit will initially accommodate up to 6 Intermediate Care level patients, with the remaining 7 beds designated for patients requiring acute care for cardiac surgery or pre-transplant status. Relocation assistance is available for those who qualify. As a vital member of the Health Care Team, the RN will operate within the defined Scope of Practice for the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adhere to Seattle Children's policies, procedures, and guidelines. The role involves providing safe, family-centered patient care. Utilizing the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care collaboratively with the patient, their family, significant others, and the healthcare team. This may include supervising and delegating tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as permitted by the State Administrative Code. The RN will contribute to Seattle Children's strategic goals by integrating initiatives such as Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, and Workforce Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) into daily work.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions at time of hire unless the incumbent possesses a current appropriate Life Support Education required for their practice area.
  • BLS must be maintained in current status until the incumbent obtains the appropriate Life Support Life Support Education required for their practice area.
  • Nurses working in the following areas are required to successfully obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 3 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Cath Lab & Special Procedures, Clinical Research Center, Critical Care Float, Emergency Department, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Transport Control, Radiology (including Interventional Radiology and Endoscopy Lab), Recovery Room (PACU) Excluding RNs working exclusively in fixed term contracts with no direct patient contact, Surgery (including Bellevue Surgery Center)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a pediatric related health care setting, or a specific area of nursing, may be required for specific departments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • Pediatric health care nursing experience.

Responsibilities
