About The Position

This position delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process, which includes assessing the patient, planning the care of the patient, intervening as appropriate, and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions. The role incorporates age-specific safety/infection control measures into patient care, initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others' need for information, and maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out-of-hospital transfers. The department is a 36-bed Cardiac PCU with a Nurse/Patient Ratio of 1:4 depending on acuity. The patient population includes intermediate/telemetry level of care for post-acute cardiac, general medical, endocrine, GI/renal patients. This is a MAGNET facility, Level III Trauma Center, and Primary Stroke center.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • CLIAFE - Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • Current PCU experience strongly preferred
  • In addition to the required qualifications, a successful RN will demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • The professional nurse exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
  • The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Current PCU experience strongly preferred
