The Diversion program is a short-term residential program for Lancaster County residents who are adults with a serious and persistent mental illness. The intention of the program is to divert persons from more intensive inpatient treatment (i.e. state hospital or Extended Acute Unity). Treatment services are designed to support individuals in developing self-sufficiency skills that will allow them to live as independently as possible in the community. Educational programing and therapy of varying modalities are offered in different combinations on a daily basis. The program psychiatrist meets with each resident once a week for treatment review and medication management. The program nurse oversees the administration of medications and the overall medical management of each resident. Services provided include educational groups, behavioral management, crisis intervention, community re-integration skills (e.g., independent living, social, leisure), and gaining supportive services in the community such as individual therapy. The Registered Nurse provides and coordinates treatment and services to psychiatric patients, functioning as a member of the health care team at an intermediate nursing level to assist in the planning and implementation of patient care based upon sound nursing judgment, clinical preparation, knowledge, skills, and experience. Nursing care is provided in accordance with the provisions of the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Additionally, the RN serves as a nursing resource for clinical staff and may serve as the key clinical contact in the absence of the Nursing Supervisor or Clinical Team Lead by providing support for clinical staff scheduling and competency oversight of clinicians.
