About The Position

The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Mental Health Unit. This unit is a locked inpatient psychiatry treatment facility serving patients with various psychiatric diagnoses including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and cognitive impairments like dementia. Many patients may be under involuntary and/or court-ordered admissions. The role involves comprehensive patient care, including assessments, medication administration, interdisciplinary team coordination, admissions, discharges, transfers, delegation to assistive personnel, electronic medical record documentation, patient transport, withdrawal monitoring and management, and emergency response. The nurse will utilize de-escalation techniques and provide evidence-based individual support, such as cognitive behavior therapy principles for depression and anxiety.

Requirements

  • Completed courses for nursing from an accredited program approved by either the Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
  • A current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
  • A minimum of three years' direct inpatient care experience in the mental health/behavioral health specialty.
  • Must have BLS through the American Heart Association.
