About The Position

This position is open to experienced psychiatric nurses. The RN will primarily serve in both the inpatient BERT RN and ED BERT RN roles, with occasional shifts on Ge2E, the Acute Psychiatry Unit. The BERT RN supports Rochester Methodist Campus and St. Marys Campus in-patient units and the Emergency Department. The BERT RN is responsible for the daily coordination of behavioral health interventions within the ED and throughout the Mayo Clinic-Rochester campus. This position plays an integral role in the care of patients with acute psychiatric illnesses and behavioral crises. The BERT RN also works collaboratively with others to assure prompt follow up of any issues. The employee fulfills all Registered Nurse Job Description requirements when working in this role and as an RN member of the BERT. Ge2E is a 25-bed closed adult unit that is designed to accommodate brief crisis admissions as well as longer stays for patients with major depressive disorders, psychotic processes, affective disorders, anxiety disorders, and comorbid substance abuse. Modes of treatment utilized include group therapy, individual supportive therapy, behavior modification, pharmacology, electroconvulsive therapy, and recreational therapy. The care delivery system features an interdisciplinary team approach. Nursing care is implemented by a primary nursing model. Patient treatment plans are individualized to meet each unique need. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • One year of professional RN experience is required.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
