About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse Navigator to support our Medical Molecular Genetics service line. This full-time position offers Monday through Friday, day shift hours (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) with no weekends, holidays, or call requirements, providing an excellent opportunity to impact patient care in a specialized field. The RN Navigator will coordinate the care needs of patients within the Medical Molecular Genetics service line, developing comprehensive plans to manage care delivery across the continuum. The role involves partnering with patients and their primary physicians to develop individualized care plans, ensuring timely and appropriate testing, treatments, and support services. The RN Navigator will collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, advocating for patients and balancing clinical needs with financial considerations to optimize care efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN).
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Requires knowledge of personal computers using various types of word processing and database software.
  • Requires clinical work experience, medical terminology.
  • Requires understanding of medical record requirements, regulations and policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience preferred.
  • PICU experience preferred.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Specialty certifications may be required per unit/department specialty in accordance with the department provision of care.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate care for patients in the Medical Molecular Genetics program, ensuring seamless delivery of genetic testing and related services.
  • Develop and implement personalized care plans in collaboration with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, providing education, support, and guidance throughout the care process.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely and appropriate testing, results interpretation, and follow-up.
  • Balance clinical needs with cost-effective care strategies to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain knowledge of medical record requirements, regulations, and policies pertinent to genetic services.
  • Utilize computers and software applications to document, communicate, and coordinate patient care.
