About The Position

Join UPMC Presbyterian's Adult Acute Care Team on Unit 10 South. This is a 30-bed acuity-adaptable medical unit that cares for a general medical patient population and overflow patients from various specialties including orthopedics, ENT, hepatology, urology, and abdominal transplant. The unit is team-driven and serves a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity, making it an excellent environment for both new graduate nurses and experienced nurses looking to expand their clinical knowledge. The division of Adult Acute Care is the largest admitting group to the general medicine service at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore Hospitals, treating patients of all ages for a wide array of conditions requiring compassionate and expert nursing care.

Requirements

  • Graduate Nurses eligible for State Board Licensure will be considered.
  • Staff Nurses with nursing experience will be considered.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS required within 12 months of beginning employment.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

  • BSN-preferred.
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate and expert nursing care to a diverse patient population with a wide array of conditions.
  • Care for a general medical patient population as well as overflow patients from orthopedics, ENT, hepatology, urology, and abdominal transplant.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by the assigned unit.
  • Assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handling multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Utilize clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Apply the nursing process, exercising critical thinking skills.
  • Perform mobility and visual manual dexterity tasks.
  • Exhibit physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
