Registered Nurse - Adolescent Unit
About The Position
The Registered Nurse coordinates the provision of direct patient care according to Nursing Care Standards. In this role, the nurse will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, reassessing, and recording patient care in accordance with the interdisciplinary treatment plan. This includes utilizing thorough knowledge of age-specific needs, care of mentally ill persons, relevant legal acts, CMS and CIHQ standards, voluntary/involuntary patient rights, and confidentiality. The role requires proficiency in therapeutic 1:1s, leading or co-leading therapeutic groups/activities, and providing patient/family teaching. The nurse will be an active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, collaborating with physicians and other disciplines to develop, implement, and revise patient treatment and discharge plans. They will also direct and assist other disciplines, provide leadership to ensure professional nursing standards are maintained, and exemplify the IRMC mission, vision, and values. Excellent interpersonal communication skills are essential for effective communication with patients, families, and organizational members. The nurse will assist in providing patient and family education and may function as the charge nurse as assigned. The position requires the ability to float to all units, including geropsych, adult, and adolescent units.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- 1 year med-surg experience and/or 1 year geriatric experience
- 1 year of behavioral health experience
- Possess current license as an RN in Pennsylvania or must pass nursing boards within 6 months of hire.
- BLS required or obtained within 1 month of hire.
Responsibilities
- Assessing, planning, implementing, reassessing, and recording patient care in accordance with the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
- Using thorough knowledge of age-specific needs, care of mentally ill persons, Chapter 5100 of the M.H. Procedures Act, CMS and CIHQ standards, voluntary, involuntary, patient rights and confidentiality.
- Proficient in therapeutic 1:1’s.
- Leading or co-leading therapeutic groups/activities and providing patient/family teaching.
- An active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team where you are expected to work collaboratively with physicians and other disciplines to develop, implement, and revise each patient’s interdisciplinary treatment and discharge plan.
- Directing and assisting all other disciplines and provide leadership to ensure professional nursing standards are maintained.
- Exemplifying the IRMC mission, vision, and values, acting in accordance with IRMC policies and procedures to ensure quality care is provided.
- Utilizing excellent interpersonal communication skill to effectively communicate with patients, family, and members of the organization.
- Assisting in providing patient and family education.
- Able to function as the charge nurse as assigned.
