About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients in an inpatient psychiatric setting. This role is responsible for administering medications, monitoring patient health, collecting and documenting assessment data, and responding to injuries or urgent medical needs. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team to implement care plans, ensures accurate and timely documentation, and upholds all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards. The RN supports patients in activities of daily living, participates in therapeutic groups, and maintains a respectful, inclusive, and therapeutic environment for all patients and colleagues. This role involves a mix of standing, walking, and occasional lifting, along with regular use of office equipment. You’ll work in a professional office setting with moderate noise levels and occasional exposure to outdoor conditions.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Missouri.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Behavioral health orientation provided during training.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • At least 3 months of behavioral health, pediatric, or inpatient nursing experience with a strong understanding of patient care and safety.
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, participating in treatment planning, and communicating effectively with staff, providers, and guardians is important.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring patient health, including allergies and reactions, reporting infections, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Supporting daily living activities such as hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.
  • Assisting with crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, participating in treatment planning, and communicating effectively with staff, providers, and guardians.
  • Maintaining clean and safe treatment areas.
  • Operating medical equipment.
  • Conducting assessments and admissions.
  • Reviewing discharge instructions.
  • Adhering to all facility, state, and federal regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Practice conduct that displays respect for all KVC colleagues and community stakeholders regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, ethnicity, or veteran status.
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and reassessments, identifying patient needs and priorities.
  • Administer medications, monitor the medication administration records.
  • Utilizes barcode scanning to administer medications.
  • Reviews and implements new orders in a timely manner.
  • Provide first aid and basic wound care for minor injuries per scope of practice.
  • Collect, document and report patient data in the EHR.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments as directed.
  • Obtain vital signs and document in EHR.
  • Collect specimens for labs per provider orders.
  • Communicating with pharmacy in a timely manner on medication needs for patients.
  • Takes verbal orders from providers.
  • Properly reports abuse/neglect.
  • Conduct hygiene/educational groups.
  • Additional duties may be assigned based on organizational needs and staff qualifications.
