About The Position

The Hospital of Central Connecticut is seeking a Registered Nurse to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) within the Family Birth Place. The NICU is staffed by a multidisciplinary care team including board-certified neonatologists, certified pediatric physician assistants, and neonatal nurses. Under the general direction of Nursing Leadership and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, and policies and procedures of the hospital. This position develops a plan of care for complex, multi-varianced population of patients, which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of the patient and family.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing.
  • One year of experience with a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical experience as a licensed registered nurse.
  • Registered Nurse, State of CT
  • Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Must be able to effectively communicate information in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge of high reliability.
  • Strong knowledge of and demonstrated skills in providing care for age specific populations.
  • Strong computer skills and use of industry applications/programs.
  • Ability to learn new technology and programs as advancements and changes are implemented.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of nurse residency, if applicable.
  • Membership in a professional nursing organization preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Applies the principles and practices of nursing.
  • Cares for a full patient assignment with expanding scope of responsibilities over time.
  • Develops a plan of care for complex, multi-varianced population of patients, which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of the patient and family.
  • Ability to act as a preceptor and charge nurse as needed.
  • Self-directed in clinical responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple clinical priorities.
