About The Position

For individuals with no prior OR experience, Mayo Clinic offers a Periop 101 program, with upcoming cohorts planned for winter 2026. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nursing program
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Circulates and coordinates the surgical team in all aspects of OR activities, providing optimum perioperative nursing care.
  • May be asked to scrub as needed.
  • Functions as the patient's advocate.
  • Accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
  • Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care.
  • Functions within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, including accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care.
  • Provides leadership through activities such as preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, is skillful in mentoring and teaching, and may participate on committees or projects.
