About The Position

An Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) is crucial in providing immediate and comprehensive care to patients experiencing acute medical conditions or emergencies. Below is an overview of the key aspects of the role:

Requirements

  • Two years of emergency room experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Licensure with the State Board of Nurse Examiners for their state.
  • Current BCLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC preferred
  • Educational requirements appropriate for meeting the age-specific needs of patients presenting to the emergency center, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, including emergency procedures required for stabilizing patients of all ages.
  • Validate clinical skills outlined in the orientation checklist and maintain annual clinical competency.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough head-to-toe assessments and psychosocial evaluations of patients when they arrive, determining the severity of their condition.
  • Assign triage categories to ensure timely care based on the urgency of each patient's condition.
  • Provide care to patients of all ages, including neonates, children, adults, and geriatrics, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Administer medications accurately while adhering to the five rights of medication administration (right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, right time).
  • Oversee the work of support staff such as Emergency Room Technicians (ERTs) and other healthcare personnel, ensuring a collaborative and efficient workflow.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, explaining procedures and treatment plans to provide emotional support and education.
  • Work closely with physicians and other healthcare staff to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment to prevent infection and promote patient safety.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities, attending staff meetings, and engaging in quality improvement initiatives.
