About The Position

Central Louisiana State Hospital, located in Pineville, Louisiana, is seeking applicants for a vacant position in our Clinic as a Registered Nurse 1-3 who provides basic professional nursing care to patients and/or clients. The Registered Nurse 1-3 (Clinic) plays a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional nursing for adult patients with psychiatric and coexisting medical/physical problems.
  • Assists LIP with newly admitted patients, medication reconciliation, review of documents, etc.
  • Performs/assists LIP with physical exams, visual acuity, hearing screen, EKG, lab requisitions, X-ray requisition, pelvic and Pap smear.
  • Document procedures done on patient records and log books.
  • Maintains Medicare sheets for hearing screenings and EKGs.
  • Prepares patients for exams and explains any procedures done.
  • Assists with collection of specimens, sutures, wound care and other treatments.
  • Takes vital signs, weights and other measurements as needed.
  • Schedules daily sick call for patients.
  • Performs venipuncture on all inpatients.
  • Informs clients of procedures for drawing labs.
  • Identifies clients before venipunctures.
  • Maintains proper collections of urine specimens and other body fluids, and proper infection control of the laboratory.
  • Communicates with territory manager of contracted labs to oversee the smooth running of the laboratory. (Delivery of equipment, changes requirements for laboratory tests, etc.)
  • Communicates with contracted lab that performs “stat” results for any changes in lab performance of problems.
  • Collects adequate and correct blood specimens by venipunctures.
  • Follow department policies to correctly identify patients before blood specimens are drawn.
  • Initiates glucose tolerance procedures and collects remaining specimens.
  • Draws other timed specimens as indicated.
  • Performs coagulation studies as requested.
  • Centrifuges and processes blood specimens and prepare other body fluids to be sent to contracted labs.
  • Available to draw “stat” or emergency lab work during regular working hours.
  • Maintains accurate and orderly database on any specimens collected.
  • Maintains communication with LIP’s, nursing staff, and direct supervisor.
  • Serves as an information source regarding status of test.
  • Obtains reports via printer and logs in return of report.
  • Calls in abnormal results to unit nurses, pharmacy and other necessary personnel.
