About The Position

The Registered Histotechnician will be responsible for consistent accuracy throughout the processing of tissue sections; while demonstrating efficient work habits and flexibility. Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to: Project quality control monitoring, slide printing, cassette printing, Qualified for grossing tasks, Experience loading, changing, cleaning, and troubleshooting tissue processors, Spawning, trimming, and embedding tissue, Perform routine H&E staining followed by glass/film coverslipping, TMA creation, both manually and automated, Strong microtomy experience-various thickness per project requirements, ability to obtain curls at various thickness, TMA sectioning, IHC Experience: various platforms (Dako Autostainer, Dako Omnis, Leica BOND III, and Ventana BenchMark ULTRA), validations, assay transfer, assay development, concentrations/dilutions, Pipetting, Digital slide scanning, quality control of images, Verify control slides by identifying tissue structures and their staining characteristics, Perform and monitor quality control within predetermined limits, Routine equipment cleaning/maintenance tasks, Organize work and activities to achieve maximum productivity, Demonstrate professional conduct and interpersonal communication skills with laboratory personnel and staff at all levels, Maintain a safe working environment, compliant with established policies and procedures of regulatory agencies, and responds positively to necessary changes in the workplace, Demonstrate the ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives and independently choose appropriate course of action, Comply with organization and department policies and procedures, participate in programs and activities to achieve the mission of the laboratory, and assume responsibility for professional growth and development, Responsible compliance with all OSHA, CLIA, CAP, safety, and HIPAA regulations, Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree
  • 0-2+ years of related experience
  • Histologist (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certified by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or HT certification eligible with certification obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Visual acuity and above average dexterity
  • At times may come in contact with viral and bacterial infections, exposure to blood borne pathogens and occasional exposure to toxic substances
  • Capable of a moderate amount of walking, standing, and/or sitting
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, minimum lifting (no more than 20 lbs.), bending, stooping, normal or corrected visual, hearing and good manual dexterity are required
  • Ability to lift or carry no more than 20 pounds or pull or push no more than 50 pounds
  • Ability to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English language

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or graduate of a certified Histology program or equivalent preferred
