Echocardiograph technicians are a very specific kind of diagnostic medical sonographer dealing with the heart. Echo technicians use ultrasound devices and other imaging tools that use sound waves to create images of the heart. They inspect the chambers and walls of the heart as well as the valves. An echocardiogram can be administered externally on a patient's chest but can also be conducted by placing a tube down a patient's esophagus to get closer to the heart internally. A caregiver in this position works days + on-call shifts from 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. with weekend requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Perform echocardiograms, stress tests, stress echoes and Dobutamine stress echo. Assist cardiologist with transesophageal echocardiograms. Consult with cardiologists for interpretation of test results. Maintain records of testing documentation. Provide daily account of patient's charge requisition with appropriate ICD9 codes. Provide training and acts as a resource for echocardiogram students, residents, and physicians. Provide testing for add-on emergency patients. Always maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files, including products and service quotes.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a two-year Cardiovascular Technology program
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) registry status from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other caregivers
  • Ability to empathize with patients and families

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of experience in echo and vascular ultrasound
  • Ability to perform ICAEL-accredited echocardiography studies, including stress echocardiograms and dobutamine studies.
  • Experience with transesophageal echocardiograms (TEEs) and transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs)

Responsibilities
