About The Position

Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is seeking a Contract Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) for its Nshwaasnangong Child Care and Family Centre. This role involves providing a culturally rich childcare curriculum within an urban Indigenous context. The centre offers licensed childcare for children aged 0-6 and a family centre for various community programs. The RECE will report to the Centre Manager and collaborate with a team of RECEs and Educational Assistants. The position emphasizes making a tangible difference in early childhood education and emergent curriculum.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
  • Registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Knowledge of the Indigenous histories, cultures, creation stories, and language of the Indigenous population in the London area a strong asset.
  • A demonstrated commitment to language revitalization and reclaiming cultural identities.
  • Experience as an Indigenous language learner an asset.
  • A genuine respect for Indigenous cultures and practices, with an openness to learning and engaging with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience with Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Preferably a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an Early Childhood setting.
  • A demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and promoting the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
  • Knowledge and experience with licensing under the Child Care Early Years Act.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous pedagogical approaches that support How Does Learning Happen, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.
  • Able to meet the legislative requirements for working in a licensed childcare setting.
  • You are a team player who can establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact positively with community members, management, and staff.
  • You have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle, as travel within the region may be needed.
  • You’ll also need a clean and current Vulnerable Sector Police Check and up-to-date immunizations and records.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the childcare team to create and maintain a culturally relevant curriculum within their classroom (Infant, Toddler, Preschool).
  • Collaborate to review curriculum, share ideas, assess curriculum, and support a positive atmosphere of teamwork.
  • Maintain a healthy, safe and inclusive environment.
  • Collaborate with the team to create a flexible daily schedule for their classroom, ensuring a dynamic and well-balanced day for the children in the room (Infant, Toddler, Preschool).
  • Keep up-to-date on relevant Early Childhood Education and maintain registration and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Initiate respectful and culturally safe relationships with families, community partners, helpers, Elders and Language keepers.
