About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Dietitian to join the Pediatric Diabetes Clinic. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, VUMC is a leading institution in patient care, education, and research. The Diabetes Program at Monroe Carell is one of the nation’s largest pediatric diabetes centers, offering comprehensive, family-centered care. This role involves assessing nutrition status, developing and implementing nutrition care plans, providing nutrition education, participating in training, and conducting research. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and expertise in nutrition therapy, patient counseling, evidence-based practice, and patient assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses nutrition status, including performance of a nutrition-focused physical exam, and implements nutrition care plans to address identified nutrition diagnoses for patients with complex medical conditions, including critically ill patients and patients on enteral and/or parenteral nutrition support, using extensive knowledge and expertise, the Nutrition Care Process and standardized nutrition terminology in documentation.
  • Monitors nutrition progress and reassesses nutrition status of critically ill patients and patients with complex medical conditions, adjusting the nutrition care plan when needed.
  • Identifies patients who meet the criteria for a medical diagnosis of malnutrition and documents criteria in the medical record.
  • Writes, accepts, and implements medical nutrition therapy and nutrition orders in eSTAR, including diet and infant feeding orders, enteral, and parenteral nutrition orders, according to the VUMC Standard Operating Procedure and RD/LDN Scope of Practice.
  • Provides nutrition counseling and education to patients, families and caregivers, and the community, using evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines, appropriate instructional methods and tools, and case management as needed to implement nutrition interventions.
  • Conducts nutrition telehealth, real-time HIPAA-compliant interactive audio and video telecommunications with patients, and monitors telehealth technologies for HIPAA compliance.
  • Trains dietetic interns, other students, and health care professionals by planning, implementing, supervising and evaluating clinical experiences and/or teaching classes.
  • Conducts nutrition outcomes research in area of clinical practice and/or conducts or participates in collaborative nutrition investigational research.
