About The Position

Betsy Ross Nursing & Rehab Center is a 120-bed facility offering excellence in rehabilitation and skilled nursing care in a lovely homelike environment that recently underwent a LARGE-SCALE RENOVATION, IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT, AND ADMINISTRATION! With a focus on rehabilitation and recovery, our skilled team of therapists and healthcare professionals assist residents in achieving optimal health and well-being. Our mission is to provide high quality care to all with respect and compassion through a team approach that focuses on personalized goals. The Registered Dietitian is responsible for the planning and direction of the preparation and service of resident meals, including regular and therapeutic diets, ordered by physicians. Responsible for the nutritional care of residents, including nutritional assessments and documentation, and preparation as a member of the care plan team.

Requirements

  • Meets the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association guidelines as a Registered Dietitian and/or on the basis of education, training, and experience.
  • Must have good interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Keeps informed of current nutrition protocols, requirements, federal, and state regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred two years’ experience or more in a hospital or long-term care setting as a dietitian; involved in resident care planning and/or menu planning.

Responsibilities

  • Keep facility, DNS, and Administrator informed of departmental activities, needs and problems.
  • Consult and work collaboratively with Food Service Director/ ICCP team/Resident’s responsible party to meet resident’s needs.
  • Plan menus/nourishments and modify menus as needed for therapeutic diets.
  • Participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other meetings as required.
  • Consider psycho-social needs of the residents, as this will impact food consumption.
  • Educate/counsel residents and family members, regarding therapeutic diet and/or modified liquid or food consistency.
  • Frequent communication with physician, team members and staff, to provide adequate nutrition and address any risks or concerns.
  • Visits new residents and conducts nutrition assessments, plan nutrition goals to meet the needs of geriatric population and physically impaired persons.
  • Documents nutritional assessment information in the medical record, according to policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for nutrition section of respective resident care plans including all residents who are at nutritional risk. Completes nutritional documentation on residents on a quarterly basis and as required to meet all regulatory timeframes.
  • Oversight and assists in preparation and approval of resident menu, including therapeutic and non-therapeutic diets.
  • Maintains a current Diet Manual for the facility, and ensures all nutritional policies are in accordance with local, federal, and state regulations (approved by the Medical Director). Responsible for overseeing the planning, preparation and accuracy of resident meals.
  • Recommends creative and individualized ways to improve or maintain resident’s nutritional requirements including use of nutritional supplements as needed.
  • Monitors for trends and formulate corrective actions to ensure compliance.
