About The Position

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Dietitian Diabetes and Nutrition Education Specialist. This is a full-time, day shift position in Charlottesville, VA. The role involves planning and coordinating education and care for patients with diabetes across a continuum, in collaboration with other disciplines and agencies. The specialist will provide staff education and counsel patients to promote wellness and prevent complications. They will also serve as a clinical resource for staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is a DEAP accredited facility, and the educator can expect to see 6-10 patients per day. This role requires a mix of inpatient and outpatient support and cross-training for coverage in both areas, crucial for supporting DEAP program accreditation.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Dietetics highly preferred
  • If Bachelor's Degree is in major other than Dietetics, must complete an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics.
  • MSN preferred
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) required within 2.5 years of hire.
  • CDECS highly preferred
  • 2 years of experience in diabetes education preferred
  • Previous experience in acute inpatient and outpatient settings preferred
  • Experience supporting accreditation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates education and care of patients/persons with diabetes across a continuum in collaboration with other disciplines, community agencies and Sentara subsidiaries.
  • Provides staff education.
  • Educates/counsels patients to promote wellness and prevention of complications in persons with diabetes.
  • Serves as a clinical resource person for the clinical staff serving the inpatient and/or outpatient population.
  • Support the DEAP program accreditation.
