About The Position

This role involves performing diagnostic medical sonography services as ordered by the Rio Grande State Center (RGSC) Outpatient Clinic. The sonographer will be responsible for reviewing exams for technical accuracy, communicating findings to physicians, and performing various ultrasound scans including Vascular Doppler, General Ultrasounds, and 2D Echocardiograms. The position requires proficient operation of specific sonography equipment, ensuring patient safety and care, managing inventory supplies, reporting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. The role also requires compliance with training mandated by RGSC OPC and Health and Human Services (HHS), and reporting any procedural complications.

Requirements

  • Must hold one of the following certifications by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS): RDMS – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, RDCS – Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, or RVT – Registered Vascular Technologist.
  • A valid certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by the American Heart Association.
  • Must maintain required certification/license required by the Joint Commission or other entity to perform vascular dopplers, general ultrasounds, and 2D.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must pass a National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and a Drug Screen.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality registered diagnostic medical sonography services as ordered in a timely manner.
  • Review each exam for technical accuracy and communicate pertinent clinical data to the physician for interpretation.
  • Proficiently perform vascular Doppler, general ultrasounds, and 2D echocardiogram scans.
  • Operate and use GE Logic P6 and GE Vivid T8 sonography equipment.
  • Assure patient safety, comfort, and care through proper use, cleaning, and maintenance of sonography equipment and universal precautions and proper disinfection techniques.
  • Report any need of inventory supplies related to sonography scans.
  • Report any malfunction with sonography or related equipment to the contract manager or designee.
  • Maintain safeguards against loss or unauthorized access and to assure confidentiality (complying with HIPAA regulations).
  • Comply with any training required by RGSC OPC and Health and Human Services (HHS).
  • Notify Radiology Supervisor and/or OPC Clinic Director of any complications associated with procedures and ability to perform above duties.
