About The Position

This role involves performing diagnostic medical sonography procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and maintaining high-quality imaging. The sonographer will also be responsible for equipment setup, patient preparation, and assisting physicians with special procedures. Additionally, the position requires maintaining accurate records, adhering to hospital policies, and participating in professional development. The role emphasizes providing excellent service to patients and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Credentialed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) (must take and pass ARDMS registry within 6 months of hire).
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology.
  • Registered in both Abdomen and OB/GYN by ARDMS within one year of hire.
  • BLS certification.
  • All certifications and registrations must be maintained, active, and current.

Responsibilities

  • Set up equipment and prepare patients for examination.
  • Select the proper transducer (type and frequency) for each examination.
  • Obtain, review, and retrieve pertinent patient history, physical exam, and supporting clinical data.
  • Position patients and adjust immobilization devices as required for optimal views.
  • Explain procedures and answer patient questions to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation.
  • Provide for the physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment, and arrange for maintenance and repair services.
  • Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Evaluate ultrasound images for technical quality.
  • Maintain adequate radiology records and label all images.
  • Assist physicians with special ultrasound procedures and needle biopsies.
  • Instruct specific units of didactic and/or clinical education in the ultrasound program.
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures, including fire and disaster plans.
  • Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Participate in activities that promote professional self-growth and development, meeting continuing education requirements.
  • Maintain an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, personnel, and guests, ensuring patient confidentiality.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
