About The Position

Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH) was founded in 1989 with an original mission of serving the region's agricultural workers by linking individuals to area resources and providing essential health services. In 2009 the organization expanded to become a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), serving patients of all incomes, ethnicities and walks of life. Over the last decade, FLCH has grown to provide medical, dental, and behavioral health services to over 28,000 patients at eight health centers. With over 200 employees we strive to provide high-quality and innovative health care services to the Finger Lakes Region.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification or diploma from a NYS qualifying or ADA accredited dental hygiene program.
  • 3+ years in a healthcare or customer service setting, functioning at an independent level with solid foundation of role knowledge preferred.
  • A valid government-issued photo identification document is required.
  • Current CPR certification through a HRSA accepted agency is required (can be provided upon employment).
  • A current, unrestricted, NYS Dental Hygienist license is required.
  • Completion of continuing education in accordance to NYS licensing renewal and privileging requirements.
  • Proficient in navigating and updating electronic health records while maintaining data accuracy.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of dental anatomy, preventive oral care, and infection control procedures, applying this expertise to deliver high-quality patient care and education.
  • Uses interpersonal skills in building relationships across departments.
  • Uses judgement to adapt communication style to various audiences and situations.
  • Excels in ensuring precision in documentation and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough oral health assessments, including reviewing patient health history and performing initial evaluations.
  • Perform dental procedures in accordance with patient treatment plan including cleanings and application of preventative materials.
  • Take dental radiographs (X-rays) to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Identify and record any oral health concerns, such as gingival disease or cavities.
  • Collaborate with the dentist to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Perform periodontal therapy and provide maintenance care for patients with gum disease.
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and dietary recommendations.
  • Provide personalized oral care instructions based on individual patient needs and treatment plans.
  • Promote preventive care and the importance of regular dental visits.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and operatory following dental and clinical infection control procedures.
  • Prepare instruments, materials, and equipment needed for upcoming patient visits.
  • Chart and lock notes within timely manner in accordance with Finger Lakes Community Health policies and procedures.
  • Address telephone encounters and actions in the electronic health record system in accordance with Finger Lakes Community Health policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
