The Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for preparing the patient for treatment and assisting the dentist with various clinical procedures. This role involves supporting and monitoring patient flow, preparing for appointments, assisting in patient distribution, and keeping patients informed of wait times. The assistant will also perform initial aspects of the patient visit, including greeting patients, obtaining vital signs, reviewing health records, and documenting information in the electronic health record. Responsibilities include operating dental radiographic equipment, disinfecting and preparing the operatory, and performing supportive dental procedures under general supervision. Advanced duties may be performed under general supervision of a dentist, as determined by the supervising dentist. The role also includes communication with patients and suppliers, preparing and stocking operatories, waste disposal, sterilization equipment maintenance, and water line cleaning. The position may require assisting in other operatories or the front office. For mobile dental units, responsibilities include maintenance, driving, record keeping, assisting passengers, and reporting vehicle issues. Adherence to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy and flexibility to work at any FHCN location are required.
