The Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for preparing the patient for treatment and assisting the dentist with various clinical procedures. This role involves supporting and monitoring patient flow, preparing for appointments, assisting in patient distribution, and keeping patients informed of wait times. The position also requires performing initial aspects of the patient visit, including greeting patients, obtaining vital signs, reviewing health records, and documenting information in the electronic health record. Responsibilities include operating dental radiographic equipment, disinfecting and preparing the operatory, and assisting the dentist during various treatment procedures. Additionally, the role involves sterilizing instruments, providing patient comfort and instructions, offering oral health education, and taking impressions. Communication with patients and suppliers, stocking operatories, and managing biohazard waste are also key duties. Advanced duties may be performed under general supervision, including mouth-mirror inspections, placement and removal of temporary dressings, testing pulp vitality, and applying pit and fissure sealants. For mobile unit responsibilities, the role includes maintenance, driving, and assisting passengers. Adherence to attendance policies and the ability to work at any FHCN location are required.
