About The Position

Registered Dental Assistant assists the dentist in the treatment and care of dental patients and assists in educating patients in oral hygiene. Performs a variety of patient care, and laboratory duties, and works chairside as dentists examine and treat patients. Drives the mobile clinic to remote locations working with school nurses, parents and individuals seeking dental care for their children.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Related Field - 2 years of experience
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B - Arkansas Department of Long Term Care
  • Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) - Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners

Responsibilities

  • Makes patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepares them for treatment, and obtains their dental records.
  • Assist hands instruments and materials to orthodontists and keeps patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices.
  • Assists Dentist in the operating room as directed.
  • Disinfects instruments and equipment, prepares trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instructs patients on postoperative and general oral health care.
  • Prepares materials for impressions and restorations, takes dental x-rays, and processes x-ray film as directed by a dentist.
  • Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Handles instrument cleaning, sterilization/disinfection and re-circulation. Performs dental room/chair disinfection.
  • Reviews consent and medical history prior to treatment.
  • Reviews and maintains dental records documenting assessments and care provided.
  • Assists in patient/family education through written and oral explanation.
  • Prepares mobile dental clinic for transport, maintains adequate fuel and fresh water, schedules grey water servicing, floor waxing, and cleaning.
  • Coordinates, monitors and resolves repairs and keeps accurate records of repairs, maintenance and variation reports.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Trains for CDL licensure for dental outreach.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
