About The Position

Durango School District is accepting applications for a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to join the team at Florida Mesa Elementary School. This position is 191 days, includes benefits and begins August 17, 2026. The RBT will provide social skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to children throughout the district at assigned locations. The RBT will collect data on programs, assist with teacher and staff training, and assist the BCBA/Behavior Specialist and School Psychologists with behavioral assessments as needed. The RBT will be responsible for supporting in classrooms and modeling behavioral interventions.

Requirements

  • Must hold a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification by the start date.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Skills Competence (Minimum 2 years of college ,e.g. associates degree, or 48 semester hours of college coursework) OR Pass paraprofessional test (CDE and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) qualifications) prior to being hired.
  • Experience working with behavior management and intervention systems is required.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents with special needs.
  • Experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Registered Behavior Technician Certification is required for this position unless the individual is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Will be required to complete CPI training.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to implement IEP’s, 504’s, and behavior support plans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct behavioral intervention in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements.
  • Follow and record data for behavioral training protocols, collect, record, and summarize data on observable student behavior.
  • Effectively communicate with school staff regarding student progress as instructed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)/Behavior Specialist.
  • Collaborate with school teams, including parents and caregivers, outside professionals, Behavior Specialist, special education administration, and co-workers.
  • Assist the BCBA with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments as requested.
  • Assist with school staff training in line with student’s individualized Behavior Intervention Plans as requested by the Special Education Teacher and BCBA.
  • Assist school staff in supporting students in times of crisis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
