About The Position

The Regional Yard Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of Yard Operations within a specified geographic region, ensuring a focus on safety, Western States’ experience, logistics, maintenance, organization, and economic efficiency. This will be achieved by partnering with the local operations team, working safely in fast-paced environments with a wide range of weather conditions year-round. Duties include training of new employees in equipment operation and logistics, covering absences for various Facility & Yard employees, and the ability to travel up to 80% of the time. This is a hands-on position that will drive efficient Yard Management, to maintain clean, orderly, and well-kept facilities that reflect the dedication, hard work, and excellence of Western States Equipment Company.

Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, organization and decisiveness, strong communication skills that reflect the capacity to interact kindly, respectfully, and tactfully with clients, employees, and vendors.
  • Ability to effectively train and collaborate across the organization on software, equipment operations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Proven customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine work priorities and assign work as required.
  • Utilizes computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting. Knowledge of Microsoft Suite required.
  • Consistent attendance with the ability to travel a minimum of 50% up to maximum of 80%, including overnight/weekends.
  • Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Minimum two years’ operating or certification in heavy equipment, required.
  • Minimum one- year training or supervisory experience, required.
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record required.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitive climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning, and twisting.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs. in accordance with Western States’ Lifting Policy to include amount and approach.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment, including workplace safety requirements, environmental regulations, and permitting procedures preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ inventory and logistics or maintenance experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively cares, promotes, and advocates safety at Western States. Ensure all employees, customers and vendors have a safe work environment while adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and standards. Participates and maintains records of compliance for STAR card reporting. Adheres to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy. Promotes and encourages team members to report safety wins, concerns, incidents through MySafety App Promotes and encourages team members to participate in safety training and reaches out for assistance when procedural knowledge requires improvement. Promotes, trains, and encourages team members to comply and participate in best practice waste stream management and environmental compliance regulations. Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSECO employees.
  • Leads and inspires the Yard Team Provides management and supervision to employees involved in the maintenance, repair, care of yards, yard related equipment, operations of yard maintenance activities at facilities in regional territory. Provides guidance, direction, and support, creating a positive work environment. Assigns tasks based on team members' strengths and workload. Evaluates individual and team performance, providing feedback and improvement strategies. Manages resources to meet operational demands.
  • Manages team responsible for the day-to-day logistics processes and documentation for receiving, staging, and shipping equipment and attachments in regional territory. Utilizes digital data inventory software to report on equipment availability, conditions, and location. Responsible for training yard employees on all safe operating procedures of equipment. Responsible for training yard employees on how to safely move attachment and other non-operable equipment. Maintains consistent communication with all departments, and responding to all stakeholder inquiries in a prompt, professional and kind manner. Supports Yard Operations Manager with yard related O&M procedures and processes. Maintains digital records on all maintenance activities performed. May support FC/YD Operations manager with onsite supervision of small projects within specified geographic region. Administers procurement activities associated with yard maintenance activities, which may include creating purchase orders; obtaining price quotes and bids; and approving employee purchases. Participates in sustainability efforts.
  • Support Caterpillar 5 Star Retail assessment Providing a safe environment for customers to navigate the yard, with clear signage, designated drive lanes, and clear safety procedures. Ensure team members provide prompt and efficient service when customers arrive. This includes minimizing waiting times and streamlining processes. Maintain a well-organized yard with equipment that is clean, well-maintained, and accessible for viewing.
