About The Position

As the Regional Yard Manager at Moon Valley Nurseries, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the regions yard operations, including inventory management, customer service, and team leadership across your district. You will lead a team of yard managers, ensuring the efficient and safe handling of trees, maintaining high standards of quality, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform manual labor.
  • Previous experience in tree nursery management or a related field, with a strong knowledge of trees and horticulture.
  • Previous experience with operating power tools, hand tools, and other equipment preferred.
  • Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with experience as a golf course groundskeeper/groundsman or in similar outdoor maintenance roles are strongly preferred. This includes hands-on experience with irrigation systems, equipment operation, landscape maintenance, and maintaining high standards for outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage all yard employees, delegating specific duties and responsibilities to each team member and ensuring accountability for their tasks.

  • Efficiently manage staffing levels, hiring employees as needed and scheduling work hours to meet operational requirements, while monitoring and controlling overtime hours as necessary.
  • Conduct daily morning meetings with yard employees, lead stretching exercises each morning and review daily and weekly agendas, discuss nursery duties, safety procedures, and any relevant information regarding nursery upkeep.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tree yard, including tree displays, signage, and customer areas, to create an attractive and inviting shopping environment.
  • Ensure that all equipment used in yard operations, such as forklifts and loaders, are properly maintained and serviced to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Lead the unloading of trucks and collaborate with management to determine storage locations for plant material, ensuring accuracy of quantities based on purchase order paperwork and inspecting the quality of nursery material received.
  • Enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for employees and customers, including proper use of equipment, PPE, and adherence to OSHA guidelines.
  • Demonstrated availability to work any day of the week.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
