About The Position

This is a 7-month position with a possible extension. Full-time during the summer (approximately 40 hours per week), non-exempt with option of part-time during the school year (hours negotiable depending on enrolled credits) for enrolled students. Possible occasional overnight travel and non-traditional work hours, including early mornings, evenings, & overnights. This is an individual placement (IP) position located at the US Bureau of Reclamation, Albuquerque Area Office. The IP will primarily provide support to the Pojoaque Basin Regional Water System (PBRWS) project. As a part of Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC), Individual Placements are also encouraged to attend the professional development and life skills training that RMYC offers regularly. In addition, the IP will have direct contact with either the Conservation Program Manager of the Conservation Program Field Coordinator at RMYC and have regular (monthly at a minimum) one on one meetings to ensure the IP is receiving an enriching experience and to coordinate inclusion with other IPs and RMYC as a whole.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with contracts, project management and/or business plans
  • Familiarity with request for proposals (RFPs)
  • Familiarity with field work and technical documents
  • Exemplary organizational skills & attention to detail; ability to organize tasks & prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills
  • Ability to sift through large amounts of information and distinguish the relevant from irrelevant
  • Ability to co-ordinate well and communicate clearly
  • Ability to build strong relationship with Federal and non-Federal employees
  • Computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel MS PowerPoint and/or GIS
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to spend substantial time sitting at a desk or in a vehicle, occasionally for long field days
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing environment
  • Strong work ethic, and the ability to take initiative and work independently with periodic check-ins
  • Ability to spend time outdoors for long periods of time in all weather conditions (extreme heat to winter conditions)
  • Pre-employment Federal background check will be required
  • Must have an insurable driving record and a valid driver’s license
  • Minimum 19 years of age

Nice To Haves

  • Business/ project management/ engineering / construction degree or certification
  • 1-2 years working or volunteering in customer service, business, engineering, construction, project management, and/or business fields
  • Experience with customer service, ability and comfort in speaking with the public

Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing requests for proposals and performance work statements for contracts supporting the PBRWS
  • Assist with PBRWS construction contracts
  • Assist with coordination and communication with engineers, contractors, Federal & State agencies, and stakeholders
  • Assist with purchase requisition packages and standard operating procedures
  • Assist with contract administration and contract document organization
  • Assist with developing and updating cost estimates and project schedules
  • Assist with meetings including planning and coordination, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Research project documentation for diverse purposes including understanding project history, assisting engineers to determine proper course of action, etc.
  • Assist in field work (work could include GPS data collection & mapping, updating project .kmzs, drafting, performing quantity surveying, vehicle reservation, etc.)
  • Create, update and manage spreadsheets for assisting and tracking project management activities
  • Research project regulatory requirements and contract documents for determination of compliance
  • Drafting and editing technical documents for contracts, compliance, etc.
  • Create and review presentations and charts based on project data
  • Participate in calls, meetings, and work groups as needed
  • Pursue and participate in relevant trainings to increase professional capacity and expand knowledge
