DLR Group has an opening for a Regional Structural Engineering Discipline Leader. As a Regional Structural Engineering Leader, you will be responsible for leading design of structural systems for buildings across a variety of sectors including Higher Education, Cultural & Performing Arts, Healthcare, K-12, Justice/Civic, and Science & Technology. You will lead structural engineering teams to produce high-quality construction documents using Revit and manage project schedules to meet deliverable requirements. As part of the integrated design team, you will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other disciplines to develop highly integrated building designs. You will provide technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to Structural Engineers and Designers within your region, supporting their professional development and fostering a high-performing team. The successful candidate will: Manage operations, execution, and expectations for the Structural Engineering Discipline in the region. Workplan structural engineering projects and manage staff to execute work to the plan to achieve profitability goals. Assign duties, responsibilities, and projects to personnel, properly balancing staffing, and workload (team and personal) to achieve profit and revenue growth goals. Schedule, facilitate and document meetings with staff and clients related to overall operations. Partner with sector and practice leadership to perform all personnel functions such as recruitment, training, and evaluation of personnel. Support business development initiatives by assisting the RFP process, participating in project interviews, and actively engaging in community and/or industry specific organization that will build the DLR Group brand. Maintain industry leading workplace practices to drive operating unit and culture towards a great place to work status. Develop designs from concept through completion of construction, including engineering design calculations, detailed engineering reports and narratives, and coordination of structural design including the design of concrete, masonry, steel, wood materials; gravity and lateral systems. Perform quality control of the electrical engineering plans and specifications. Direct or coordinate activities of personnel, vendors, and consultants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering
  • 10+ years of building related structural engineering experience, including the design of concrete, masonry, steel and wood/timber; gravity and lateral systems.
  • Prior experience leading teams of engineers on projects.
  • Working knowledge of current structural software (ETABS, SAP, SAFE, RAM, ADAPT, RISA, Enercalc).
  • Experience with BIM including Autodesk Revit workflow.
  • Understanding of commercial building materials, systems, and assemblies.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (PE).
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE).
  • Prior experience interfacing directly with clients (project management / business development / etc.).
  • LEED Accredited Professional with experience participating in LEED projects.
  • Experience and interest in sustainable building design.
