About The Position

Responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating services and activities associated with the Stroke Department.

Requirements

  • Current licensure in ONE of the following: Licensed Speech Language Pathologist through the West Virginia Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology, Occupational Therapist through the West Virginia Board of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapist through the West Virginia Board of Physical Therapists, or Current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Licensed Practical Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification due within 30 days of hire
  • One (1) year of experience in a neurology related position.
  • Able to set priorities and function independently.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Recognizes the importance of quality customer service (Service Excellence Standards) to patients and employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or healthcare.
  • Current Certification in a healthcare specialty including Emergency Medical Services.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a neurology related position.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the facility stroke program.
  • Utilizes and manages Stroke Champions on every unit related to stroke care.
  • Serves as a resource to the hospital for care of the stroke patient regardless of admitting diagnosis of the patient.
  • Facilitates community outreach activities related to Stroke awareness and education.
  • Completes on-going staff educational opportunities for all levels and departments interacting with the stroke population.
  • Collects and analyses on-going data regarding outcomes of the stroke program.
  • Analyzes data, prepares reports, and provides statistical information for Stroke Performance Improvement reviews.
  • Submits required data to the joint commission and other regulatory agencies as requested.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of patient teaching with post discharge follow up phone calls.
  • Collaborates with the neurology team and emergency department to improve performance.
  • Accountable for serving as an essential member of the department and multidisciplinary team to ensure quality cost-effective outcomes for our patients.
  • Responds to stroke alerts when available during regular working hours.
