About The Position

The Accountant performs duties related to the preparation of the Company’s financial data and financial reporting. These activities include but are not limited to posting journal entries, performing reconciliations of account balances, and preparing financial statements, reports, and other schedules on a timely basis. The Accountant will also work closely with the Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, and other team members to complete additional tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor in accounting or finance
  • 2-3 years of combined accounting experience including public or corporate/private accounting.
  • Strong initiative with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge and proficiency in MS Office, specifically MS Excel and Access.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with company personnel, financial institution personnel, and external auditors.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and basic algebraic logic.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to interpret financial reports and spreadsheets.

Nice To Haves

  • candidate with master’s degree a plus
  • Previous experience with Hyperion is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record monthly closing journal entries for Hendrick Automotive corporate ledger
  • Record journal entries needed to maintain the financial statements for certain real estate and other holding companies, which will require general understanding of accounting for fixed assets, intercompany activity, accounting for debt, etc.
  • Perform reconciliations of account balances such as cash, receivables, prepaids, and other assets and liabilities.
  • Maintain the general ledger accounts, various subledgers and other schedules associated with the account balances reconciled.
  • Review another team member’s G/L coding for incoming deposits
  • Assist with the preparation of portions for our annual budget
  • Assist in the preparation of certain footnotes within the year-end audited financial statements
  • Interact with management and other departments such as financial analysis and dealership accounting
  • Assist in the coordination and management of the external audit process
  • Analyze account activity to respond to ad hoc financial review requests, along with other special projects as requested by management
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and standardization
  • Perform duties in compliance with GAAP and company/department policies and procedures
  • Provide superior internal customer service to company’s Business Unit
  • Other miscellaneous duties and special projects as needed
  • Maintains an organized, clean and safe work area
  • Participates in required training
