About The Position

The Regional School Psychologist serves as the lead provider of psychological and mental health services across all KIPP Miami schools (K–12). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, legally compliant, and student-centered psychoeducational evaluations; strengthens regional mental health systems; and safeguards threat assessment and suicide prevention protocols. The Regional School Psychologist travels between campuses throughout the week on a structured cadence and serves all schools within the region. This role ensures full alignment with: IDEA and Florida eligibility criteria FLDOE evaluation timelines and procedural safeguards Best practices in comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation Threat Assessment and Suicide Risk Assessment protocols State-mandated Youth Mental Health Training requirements MTSS and data-driven problem-solving frameworks The Regional School Psychologist serves as the lead of the Mental Health Department and partners closely with the Director of ESE & Student Services, Assistant Director of Exceptional Student Compliance, Assistant Director of Exceptional Student Achievement, school leaders, counselors, and culture teams to ensure services are preventative, compliant, and student-centered.

Requirements

• Master's or Specialist degree (Ed.S. or higher) in School Psychology
• Valid Florida certification as a School Psychologist (or eligibility prior to start date)
• Deep knowledge of IDEA eligibility criteria and Florida evaluation requirements
• Demonstrated experience conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations
• Experience conducting suicide risk assessments and participating in threat assessments
• Strong understanding of MTSS frameworks
• Exceptional data analysis and report writing skills
• Strong crisis management and de-escalation skills
• Ability to clearly communicate complex findings to families and staff
• Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to inclusive practices
• Ability to travel between campuses throughout the week

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive, individualized psychoeducational evaluations in accordance with IDEA, Florida statutes, and professional ethical standards.
• Interpret cognitive, academic, behavioral, adaptive, and social-emotional data to inform eligibility determinations, Present Levels of Performance, and instructional planning.
• Participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings where parent consent for evaluation is considered, ensuring: Comprehensive and documented consideration of teacher and parent input, concerns, and intervention history Thorough review of MTSS data and prior intervention effectiveness Accurate determination of the evaluation components necessary to complete a legally sound and comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation
• Ensure all evaluations meet professional quality standards and are completed within mandated timelines.
• Ensure 100% compliance with the state-mandated 60-day timeline for completion of evaluations for students being considered for an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
• Develop, maintain, and actively monitor a regional Evaluation Compliance Tracker to ensure: Consent dates are accurately logged Timelines are visible and proactively monitored Upcoming deadlines are flagged in advance Escalation protocols are activated if any case approaches noncompliance
• Provide monthly evaluation compliance updates to the Director of ESE & Student Services.
• Collaborate with Program Specialists and the Assistant Director of Exceptional Student Compliance to ensure eligibility determinations and documentation are legally defensible and educationally meaningful.
• Communicate evaluation results to families and staff in clear, accessible, and student-centered language.
• Serve as the regional lead for the Mental Health Department across K–12 campuses.
• Provide direct counseling services to students with intensive or complex mental health needs, including short-term stabilization and high-risk case management.
• Develop and monitor individualized safety plans and re-entry plans following crisis events.
• Lead and support Threat Assessment processes to ensure compliance, consistency, and student-centered decision-making across all campuses.
• Conduct and oversee Suicide Risk Assessments, ensuring appropriate documentation, parent communication, referral follow-up, and compliance integrity.
• Oversee compliance with state-mandated Youth Mental Health Training requirements by: Conducting trainings for staff as needed Maintaining a regional training compliance tracker Monitoring certification status of all employees Ensuring annual compliance requirements are met
• Develop and refine regional mental health protocols aligned to best practices and preventative frameworks.
• Design and facilitate bi-monthly Counselor Skill Builders (minimum one hour per session) focused on: Evidence-based counseling strategies Crisis response and de-escalation Suicide risk assessment Threat assessment protocols Data-informed counseling practices Ethical standards and documentation expectations
• Build counselor capacity across K–12 to independently manage Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports.
• Provide coaching and consultation for complex cases, including adolescent-specific mental health needs.
• Strengthen documentation systems to ensure compliance, clarity, and consistency across campuses.
• Serve as a regional consultant to Culture Teams for the most complex and high-need behavioral cases.
• Provide psychological analysis to inform Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• Support development of prevention-focused behavioral systems aligned to KIPP Miami’s culture vision.
• Participate in cross-functional case reviews when collaborative academic, behavioral, and mental health problem-solving is required.
• Strengthen MTSS implementation by ensuring psychological expertise informs Tier 2 and Tier 3 decision-making across K–12.
• Support interpretation of universal screening data and identification of students requiring deeper diagnostic assessment.
• Provide regional trend analysis related to evaluations, crisis incidents, mental health referrals, and behavioral data patterns.
• Maintain secure, FERPA-compliant documentation systems.
• Ensure alignment between evaluation findings, instructional planning, and intervention systems.
• Establish and uphold a cohesive regional mental health vision characterized by compliance integrity, proactive prevention, and student-centered care.
• Partner with school leaders to ensure psychological services align with academic, compliance, and culture priorities across K–12 campuses.
• Develop the professional capacity of school counselors through structured coaching and bi-monthly Skill Builders.
• Model high-quality assessment, consultation, and crisis response practices.
• Identify system-wide professional development needs and design responsive training plans.
