About The Position

We are currently seeking dedicated Physical Therapists (PT) to join our team in a local traveling role. This position offers a dynamic work environment and requires a flexible, adaptable approach to meet the evolving needs of students and schools. As a traveling PT, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while helping students reach their full potential. You will provide services at the following school locations: Canton Charter Academy- Canton, MI Plymouth Scholars Charter Academy- Plymouth, MI South Pointe Scholars Charter Academy- Ypsilanti, MI Fortis Academy- Ypsilanti, MI East Arbor Charter Academy- Ypsilanti, MI South Canton Scholars Charter Academy- Ypsilanti, MI

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates must hold valid licensure for the state they are working in.
  • Physical Therapist license issued by the Michigan Department of Education

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect physical therapy services as outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 plans.
  • Conduct assessments of gross motor skills, functional mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and postural control for students referred for special education evaluation to help determine eligibility for services.
  • Participate in the IEP/Section 504 process, providing input on assessment measures, intervention strategies, and student progress.
  • Collaborate as a member of the special education team to deliver comprehensive services to students with disabilities.
  • Consult with teachers, school administrators, parents, and relevant stakeholders regarding students’ physical development, mobility needs, and accessibility accommodations.
  • Work closely with teachers and staff to integrate physical therapy strategies into the school environment and support students' participation in academic and non-academic activities.
  • Provide training to staff and caregivers on safe and effective positioning, transfers, adaptive equipment use, and mobility strategies.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust physical therapy interventions in collaboration with school staff and parents.
  • Utilize treatment strategies that promote functional mobility, strength, balance, endurance, coordination, and overall independence in the school setting.
  • Recommend, modify, and monitor adaptive equipment and assistive devices to enhance students' physical access and participation.
  • Maintain an accurate record of student caseload requirements and update the Special Education Administrator on any changes.
  • Maintain a detailed schedule and service logs, and track student progress toward therapy goals.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in handling confidential matters and materials.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to stay informed about current practices and research in school-based physical therapy.
  • Participate in school initiatives such as accessibility planning and safety assessments to support student development and inclusion.
  • Attend parent-teacher meetings as needed to discuss student progress and therapy plans.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the building principal.
